We offer a number of initiatives and benefits to help our staff develop both professionally and personally.

People are at the heart of Fairtrade

People are at the heart of what’s important at Fairtrade. Together, we work to improve lives through fairer trade practices, and ‘our people’ enable us to deliver more impact where it matters.

We provide a development plan that sets out Fairtrade’s commitment to Learning & Development (L&D) at the Foundation – to grow, develop and inspire our people.

The achievements of our workforce are crucial to the successful delivery of our strategy.  To enable staff to make the best possible impact, we will create a culture that allows everyone to Learn & Develop.

Our vision for L&D at the Foundation is one in which we unlock the power of a talented workforce, providing the chance to fulfill potential.

This plan acts as the first steps on the path to fulfilling our L&D aspirations.

By the end of our strategy 2013-15, we aim to apply for, and hopefully successfully achieve, Investors in People (IiP) status.  This kitemark will represent our increased commitment to staff L&D. We also hope to see this demonstrated by far greater staff survey satisfaction ratings with regards to L&D.

A key part of our development as an organisation is to embed good practice monitoring & evaluation of the impact that we make.

We’ve tried to ensure your development, doesn’t stop at ‘grow, develop & inspire’ – we commit to evaluate the impact of what we do & learn, so we keep improving.

We offer regular one-to-ones so you can discuss work, issues and projects – and you will have an annual performance development review with 360 feedback so you know how you are doing and we can find out how to help you do an even better job. It’s a system that works – we have large numbers of staff that have been promoted.

We know how important it is for our staff to know our vision and plans and every week there will be staff meetings or “huddles” to keep you informed.

We also believe in our staff having a healthy work/life balance, so we offer permanent staff benefits including a contributory pension, generous holiday, sick pay and maternity and paternity leave, the chance of flexible working hours and loan schemes for home computers, bikes and train season tickets.

A team effort

Fairtrade is a team effort that relies on good relationships – and that means we want to help you meet staff and make friends.

And there are lots of ways for you to get involved, if you want.

If you want to keep fit we offer yoga sessions with a professional teacher, with everyone catered for from absolute beginners to veterans to expectant mothers!

In the summer we enter a team into the charity softball league which is always competitive but great fun. And in the winter we have a Fairtrade squash league with a number of local courts nearby.

We have our own library by reception for those who want something more mentally stimulating – while our new wine club offering tasting sessions of Fairtrade wines is a chance to relax and socialise with colleagues.

Along with our regular events, including the cake-off and the monthly birthday song, it helps make Fairtrade a great place to work.
